Every Great Product Starts with an Idea

SEC Fit began with one: a cutting-edge workout platform built for the high-performance world of SEC conference athletes and their coaches.

The founder had a vision but nothing tangible, no sketches, no wireframes, no user flows. The challenge was to turn that raw idea into a complete, investor-ready product concept that could inspire partners and guide a future technical team.

This project followed my idea development approach: turning a concept into a fully visualised, strategic, and marketable product.

My Role: Founding Design & Product Partner

For this project, my role extended far beyond a typical product designer. I acted as a true founding partner to the solo entrepreneur. My responsibility was to own the entire product vision from the ground up. This included:

Product Strategy: Helping to define the core features and user experience

Branding & Visual Identity: Creating the SEC Fit brand, logo, and visual language from scratch

End-to-End UX/UI Design: Architecting and designing the complete mobile and desktop experience for both athletes and coaches

Investor Pitch Deck Creation: Assembling all the assets into a professional sales deck to be used for fundraising

This approach aligned perfectly with my sports tech product design framework, building clarity, credibility, and investor confidence from day one.

The Solution: A Dual-Sided Platform for Peak Performance

The vision was built around a dual-sided platform that served the distinct needs of two key users: the Athlete and the Coach.

1. The Athlete’s Journey: A Complete Training Companion

For the athletes, the app was designed to be an all-in-one hub for their entire training life.

Personalised Onboarding: The experience starts with a detailed onboarding flow, capturing the athlete’s sport, goals, and experience level to tailor the entire app.

Structured Training: Athletes can select from professionally designed training plans, track their daily workouts, and log their meals and nutrition.

Motivation & Community: To keep athletes engaged, I designed a system of challenges, leaderboards, and a community feed where they could connect and share progress.

Four-screen mobile onboarding flow for a sports training app showing athlete selection, sport categories, and personalized training plans with coach profiles, designed by SGX Studio.
Four-screen mobile UI displaying strength and power workout plans with progress bars, exercise lists, and detailed power clean tracking for athletic performance, designed by SGX Studio.
Four-screen mobile UI featuring community feed updates, fitness challenges, athlete profile analytics, and smartwatch connectivity for performance tracking and engagement, designed by SGX Studio.

2. The Coach’s Command Center: Total Oversight

For coaches, the platform provides a powerful set of tools to manage their teams.

Athlete Database: A desktop dashboard allows coaches to search, filter, and track every athlete on their roster.

Remote Management: Coaches can create and assign custom training plans, monitor athlete progress through connected wearables (Apple Watch, Whoop, etc.), and communicate with their team.

Dark web dashboard showing searchable athlete profiles with filters for age, sport, and school, supporting data-driven coaching and performance management, designed by SGX Studio.
Web dashboard showing athlete profile details, physical attributes, and football and basketball statistics for data visualization and player performance analysis, designed by SGX Studio.

Key Decision: Desktop for Coaches, Mobile for Athletes

I designed the coach experience primarily for desktop with a companion mobile app, while the athlete experience was mobile-first. This wasn’t arbitrary.

Athletes are on the gym floor. They need quick access to their workout on their phone. Coaches are planning programs and analysing data. They need the screen real estate and precision of a desktop interface. By optimising each experience for its natural context of use, we made both interfaces significantly more efficient than a one-size-fits-all approach.

The Impact: From an Abstract Idea to a Feasible Product

For a solo founder, the outcome of this project was a complete business-in-a-box, providing the critical assets needed to take the next step.

It Transformed an Idea into a Tangible Asset: The project turned a concept in a document into a high-fidelity, interactive prototype. This tangible vision was the essential first step in making the company “real.”

It Created an Investor-Ready Pitch: The combination of the polished prototype and the professional sales deck provided the founder with the crucial tools needed to present his vision to potential investors and secure the funding required to build the product.

It Provided a Complete Framework for Development: The comprehensive designs and user flows served as a clear and detailed guide for the future engineering team, de-risking the technical build, saving an estimated 8-10 weeks of discovery work, and dramatically accelerating the path from vision to launch.
